Well, in some points firewood completes your camping, especially when you spend your camping time on places that are far away from your residents. But now, you should take a note that you are suggested to get firewood after you arrive at your campsite rather than bring it from your home.
It is reported that firewood you have brought from your area or other places in Lexington or Kentucky may contain of larvae from the emerald ash borer. Yes, there is dangerous bug that is able to kill ash trees. Specifically, this bug was first time discovered in area near to Detroit in 2002 and it was imported from Asia.
Based on later studies conducted, these bugs have been living in surround area for years. The ugly situation was shown by the fact that there were 14 states were struck by this deadly bugs and there were millions of trees were destroyed.
In details, this bug was found in Kentucky last summer and it had been discovered that a number of the spreading bugs had attacked a dozen counties in Kentucky. Thus, the local government had quarantined those counties as well as more counties located near to the attacked areas. So, people are not allowed to carry the firewood away from the area because this may affect worse situation to happen.
The quarantine is expected to work properly as the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service puts serious effort to make things work appropriately. Even though the watch conducted over the plants movement has been seriously taken, it still faces difficulties especially regarding the watch over firewood movement.
Therefore, along the monitoring effort, another alternative to monitor the danger of infected firewood is by allowing people to see the possible impacts may happen and gaining information by placing billboards, delivering ads through radio or speaking to journalists who have been on struck areas.
Surely, people should be aware of the borer problem and make them to see that the movement of the firewood with larvae will destroy trees on other areas. Especially on holiday, they must understand that they can be the ones who are contributing the existing problem.
Additionally, officials stated that firewood has become the major cause of the spread of these borers and many areas quarantined are the campsites and county parks that have been visited mostly in holiday. In fact, the borers have flooded places around the country. You can see the actual fact that borer is unfortunately also found in a campsite in Missouri.
